Members of SEIU across the country announced our endorsement for Barack Obama for president.

Obama has a strong track record of fighting for working families—as a community activist who registered voters in Chicago, to the Illinois Senate where he sponsored legislation to raise wages for home care workers and child care providers, to the US Senate where he stands up for working families across the state and across the country.

Barack Obama was there for us in Illinois. We helped elect him to the US Senate, and we’re ready to put him in the White House to be a strong voice for change,” said Flora Johnson, home care worker and president of SEIU Local 880. “We can count on Barack Obama to stand up for working families.

Members of the SEIU Illinois Council endorsed Sen. Obama in our state’s Feb. 5th primary election.

SEIU members chose to endorse Obama because of his commitment to issues we care about, like affordable health care, living wages, the right to join a union and an end to the Iraq war. Obama spent a day on the job with a home care worker in California as part of SEIU’s “Walk a Day in My Shoes” campaign earlier this year.
